Concrete Patio in Philadelphia

Turn a cracked, sinking patio into a backyard you're proud of.

What a concrete patio is

A concrete patio is a flat, solid slab poured outside your back door or in your yard. It gives you a clean, level spot for a grill, a table and chairs, or a few planters. Done right, it turns a patch of mud, weeds or broken pavement into the place everyone wants to be. Dependable Concrete has been pouring patios for Philadelphia families since 1984, and we bring the same care to every backyard.

Signs it's time for a new patio

  • Wide cracks that keep growing, or chunks breaking off
  • Chipped, flaking or crumbling concrete that looks worse every spring
  • Sections that have sunk or tilted, so water pools near your house
  • Uneven edges that catch a foot and feel unsafe for kids or older visitors
  • A bare yard you never use because there's nowhere good to sit

If your old patio is solid but just looks tired, resurfacing may make it look new again. We'll tell you honestly which option makes sense.

How we build it

We start by clearing out the old slab, grass or debris. Then we prepare the ground so it's firm and sloped slightly away from your house. That way rainwater runs off instead of pooling against your foundation. We put down a gravel base, pack it tight with a compactor, set the forms that shape the edges, and pour. We offer exposed aggregate, and we add dye to darken the concrete so it doesn't dry to a bright white. We pour 4000 PSI concrete with fiber mesh mixed in for strength. Once the concrete is placed, we smooth and finish the surface so it's even underfoot. Then we give it time to cure, which means letting it harden properly before you put weight on it. You can walk on it the next day.

Want more than plain gray? Ask about exposed aggregate. Browse our project gallery for ideas.

Built for Philadelphia homes and winters

A concrete patio in Philadelphia has to stand up to our winters. Water seeps into small cracks, freezes, expands, then thaws, over and over. That cycle is what breaks down a poorly built slab. Good drainage and a solid base help keep your patio looking sharp year after year.

In Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy, Germantown and Roxborough, we work behind older rowhomes, twins and stone houses where space is tight and access can be tricky. We plan around narrow side yards, fences and existing stonework so your new patio fits your home and the neighborhood's character. We pull the permit for you.

Finish the whole outdoor space

A patio often goes hand in hand with other work. Pair it with a concrete walkway from the gate, new concrete steps off the back door, a fresh concrete driveway, or clean concrete curbs to finish the edges. One crew, one plan.

FAQs

Q: Can you replace my old cracked patio?

A: Yes. We break out and haul away the old slab, then pour a new one. If it's only worn on top, we'll tell you if resurfacing is an option.

Q: How long does a new patio take?

A: It depends on the size of the job, along with access and weather. We'll give you a clear timeline at your free estimate.

Q: Can I add color or a decorative look?

A: Yes. We offer exposed aggregate, and we add dye to darken the concrete so it doesn't dry bright white. Ask about it when we come out.

Q: Can you work in a small rowhome backyard?

A: Yes. We plan around the narrow alleys and small yards common behind Philadelphia rowhomes and twins.
