Basement Floors in Philadelphia

Turn a cracked basement floor into solid, level space you can use.

What basement floor work covers

Your basement floor takes a beating from moving boxes, laundry machines, water heaters and years of settling. When the concrete cracks, sinks or crumbles, the whole room feels unsafe and hard to use. Dependable Concrete repairs and replaces basement floor concrete in Philadelphia homes. You get a solid, level surface for storage, a workshop, a laundry area or a finished room down the road.

Depending on what we find, we repair cracked floors or break out the old floor and pour a new one.

Signs your basement floor needs attention

  • Cracks that keep getting wider or longer
  • Uneven spots or sections that have sunk
  • Chipped, flaking or crumbling concrete
  • Damp patches, puddles or water coming in through the floor
  • A white, chalky powder on the surface, which means moisture is moving through the concrete
  • An old dirt floor or broken-up slab that makes the basement hard to use

If you see water coming in, deal with it early. Damp floors and damp walls often go together, so we look at both when we visit.

How we approach the job

Vince and the crew start by looking at the whole space, not just the crack in front of you. We check how the floor sits, where water may be getting in, and what's causing the damage. Then we explain what we'd do in plain words. You get a free estimate before any work starts.

On the job, we clear and protect the work area, break out the old floor and haul it away. We put down a layer of gravel, then a vapor barrier, then pour a smooth, level floor of 4000 PSI concrete, 3 inches thick. If the basement is wet, we also lay 4-inch perforated pipe along the perimeter walls and set a sump pump in the corner of the basement. We keep the space as tidy as we can and clean up when we're done. You can walk on the new floor 2 days after the pour, and a washer and dryer can go back on it then too.

Built for Philadelphia homes

Older rowhomes, twins and stone houses in Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy, Germantown and Roxborough often have basements built long before anyone planned to use them as living space. Low ceilings, tight stairs, old floors and stone foundation walls all shape how the work gets done. Serving Philadelphia since 1984, we know these basements and how to work in them.

Philly's freeze-thaw winters matter too. Wet ground freezes, thaws and shifts all season. That movement can push on foundations and give water a path inside. Doing basement floor concrete in Philadelphia right means planning for that moisture, not just covering up a crack.

Pair it with other work

Many homeowners tackle the outside of the house at the same time. If your Concrete Steps are cracked, your Concrete Walkway has trip hazards, or you want a new Concrete Patio or Concrete Driveway, we can look at it all in one visit. See finished jobs in our gallery, learn more about us on our home page, or contact us with any questions.

FAQs

Q: Can you fix just a cracked section, or does the whole floor need replacing?

A: We do both. We repair cracked floors and pour new ones. Which one makes sense depends on what's causing the damage. We'll look at it during your free estimate and tell you which way to go.

Q: My basement gets wet. Will a new floor fix that?

A: A new floor alone may not stop water coming in. We find where the water is getting in and explain your options. Every new floor gets a vapor barrier. If the basement is wet, we also lay 4-inch perforated pipe along the perimeter walls and set a sump pump in the corner of the basement. See our Basement Waterproofing page for more.

Q: How long does the job take?

A: A basement floor job usually takes about 3 days, and you can walk on it 2 days after the pour. We'll give you a clear schedule with your estimate.

Q: Do you work in my neighborhood?

A: Yes. We serve all of Philadelphia, especially Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy, Germantown and Roxborough. We're open 7 days a week, 7am-7pm.
