Concrete Floor Repair Near Me: Fixing Basement Floors in Philadelphia
A cracked, sunken or crumbling basement floor doesn't fix itself. It also doesn't always need to be torn out.
If you searched "concrete floor repair near me" and you're in Philadelphia or just outside it, we're close by. Dependable Concrete LLC is a family-owned crew that's been pouring and repairing concrete here since 1984. Here's how to tell what your floor needs, and how we decide between a patch and a new pour.
Short answer: Small cracks and a few rough spots can usually be patched. If the floor is sinking, breaking up in a lot of places, holding water, or was never poured right to begin with, a new pour is usually the better money.

Signs Your Basement Floor Needs Repair
A lot of older Philly basements have floors that were poured thin, poured over dirt, or patched so many times nobody remembers what's underneath. Here's what we look for:
- Cracks that keep growing. A thin line is one thing. A crack that opens wider every year is another.
- Sunken spots. A low area where water collects, or a section that dropped next to the rest.
- Uneven slabs. One piece sitting higher than the piece next to it. That's a trip hazard.
- Crumbling or dusty surface. The top wears away and you're sweeping grit every week.
- Water coming up through cracks or around the edges after rain.
- Old patches failing. Patch on top of patch, all coming loose.
- Dirt or gravel showing where the floor has broken through.
One of these on its own is often a patch job. Several at once usually means the floor has had its run.
Basement Floor Repair Philadelphia: Patching
Patching makes sense when most of the floor is solid and the problem is limited to a few spots.
Here's how we do it:
- Cut out the bad section. We take it back to solid concrete so the patch has good edges.
- Fix what's underneath. If the base washed out or settled, we fill and pack it first.
- Pour the patch. We mix to match the job, set it level with the floor around it and finish it smooth.
- Let it cure. Give it a few days before you put heavy stuff back on it.
A good patch blends in and lasts. A patch over a bad base just cracks again.

When a New Pour Makes More Sense
Sometimes patching is throwing good money after bad. We usually recommend a new floor when:
- The floor is broken in a lot of places, not just one or two.
- It's sinking in several spots, which usually means a problem with what's underneath.
- It's so thin it crumbles when you hit it.
- You're finishing the basement and want a flat, solid floor to build on.
- Water keeps coming up and the floor needs to come out anyway to deal with it.
A new pour means breaking out the old floor, hauling it away, getting the base right, and pouring fresh concrete to the right thickness. It's a bigger job, but you're starting clean instead of chasing cracks every few years.
Why We Mix Our Own Concrete
We mix our own concrete. We run our own silo and mixers, so we control the strength of every batch and can add fiber when the job calls for it. For a basement floor, fiber helps hold the slab together and cut down on small cracks as it cures.
Mixing on our end also means we're not waiting around on someone else's truck schedule. That matters a lot in a tight rowhome basement where everything goes in by wheelbarrow.

Patching or New Pour: How We Decide
We don't decide over the phone. We come out and look. We check how much of the floor is solid, tap for hollow spots, look at where water sits and ask what you plan to use the space for.
Then we tell you plainly which way makes sense. If a patch will do it, we'll say so. If patching just puts off a new floor by a year or two, we'll tell you that too.

FAQ
Can you just pour new concrete over an old basement floor?
Yes. Resurfacing over an old floor works well every time when it's properly prepared and applied. If it's sinking or broken up, it usually needs to come out first.
How long before I can use the floor?
You can walk on it carefully after 24 hours. Give it longer before moving heavy things like a washer or shelving back in. We'll tell you the timing for your job.
Do small cracks in a basement floor matter?
Thin dry cracks are common and usually not a big deal. Cracks that grow, let water in, or have one side higher than the other are worth fixing.
Do you work outside Philadelphia?
Yes. We also work in Cheltenham, Glenside, Wyncote, Abington and Jenkintown.
