Why you should cement your basement walls.
By Vincent

Your basement is an important part of your home, but it's often overlooked when it comes to renovations. However, if you're looking to make the most of your basement space, one of the most important steps is making sure your basement walls are in good condition. Cementing your basement walls is a great way to ensure the longevity and durability of your basement space, and it can also add value to your home.

One of the first things to consider when repairing your basement walls is parging. Parging is the process of applying a thin layer of cement to your basement walls. This can help to smooth out any rough or uneven surfaces, and it can also help to seal out moisture. This is especially impor...

History of Portland Cement
By Vincent

In 1824, Joseph Aspdin, a British stone mason, obtained a patent for a cement he produced in his kitchen. The inventor heated a mixture of finely ground limestone and clay in his kitchen and ground the mixture into a powder creating a hydraulic cement – one that hardens with the addition of water. Aspdin named the product portland cement because it resembled a stone quarried on the Isle of Portland off the British Coast. With this invention, Aspdin laid the foundation for today's portland cement industry. The

Patio overlay with tiled squares
By Vincent

Instead of replacing the damaged concrete patio shown below, we spread a cement overlay on top of the damaged concrete. First, we prepped the damaged patio by removing all loose material that would prevent a solid bond. We then applied a glue and 2 applications of cement. The cement overlay is approximately 1/2 inch per application. After waiting a day, we then saw-cut the diamond shapes into the 1" overlay. Lastly, we cleared the saw cutting dust and applied 2 coats of a high gloss clear concrete sealer. Looks can be deceiving, the work appears like a completely replaced concrete patio but for less then half the cost.

Concrete Steps before and after!
By Vincent

We have replaced 4 damage concrete steps. Our step work is leveled with straight lines. There are many "fly by night" contractors that can't get this right. Either 1 step is too big our their form work is not right and they try to fix or dress up the errors in the cementing phase.

We installed a concrete extension for this customer. They live in Manayunk and require additional rear parking. We created another parking space to accommodate an additional vehicle. We had to remove the fencing to achieve maximum width.

Pouring concrete at Boat House Row
By Ruban Immanuel

I was contracted to pour concrete footings at Malta Boat House on Kelly Drive. The boat house also have exterior racks for their boats that were sitting unevenly on dirt. Our job is to construct footings that will allow the new racks to fasten to a solid and leveled surface.

I enjoyed this project because of the unique and scenic position along the Schuylkill River. I also enjoyed feeling the energy of the people running, walking or biking along the Kelly walkway.

Several years ago we pour an exposed aggregate walkway for John Kelly at boat house #10. He referred us to Malta which is how we were awarded this project.
